The combined teams of Onipanu police division in Ota and Ifo
division have on Saturday, November 14, rescued a two weeks old baby who
was stolen in Abule Ifo in Ifo local government area of Ogun state.
The suspect, Ifeoluwa Yekini, of Abule Ifo in Ifo town was alleged to have stolen the baby on Saturday, October 31.
According to a statement release on Tuesday, November 17, by the state police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the combined teams had placed the suspect under surveillance.
“The suspect(now in police custody), who had been monitoring the mother of the baby while pregnant went under the pretense of felicitating with the mother in her house at the same village, requested to carry the baby, which the mother obliged her.“She went further by requesting from the mother to take the baby out to shop for the little baby girl. But at the market, the suspect decided to run away with the baby to an unknown place.
“The mother of the baby, after several efforts to locate her with the baby, then reported the case to the police at the police divisional headquarters in Ifo for search and necessary investigation.
“The suspect, who had been on some medications to deceive her husband for being pregnant, took permission from her husband to visit her parents in another village from where she put a phone call across to her husband that she had put to bed.
“This was so suspicious and her relations and neighbors raised alarm which compelled her to flee to Onipanu area in Ota, Ogun state where she was eventually arrested on 14th November, at 0500hrs,” the statement reads in part.Meanwhile, the Ogun state commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali has charged parents to protect their children and keep watch over them.
He stressed that this case should be a lesson to every mothers.
CP Ali has however directed that the case be charged to court as the command will not tolerate any act of criminality in the state.
